One night, I had a dream where a small squid-like alien took revenge on humanity because it was being used as an ink machine printer.
This collection has nothing to do with aliens or sci-fi (sorry to disappoint). But after reflecting on that dream—after speaking to the small squid about what it had done and why—I realized something: it was me.
I felt like I was being used as an ink machine printer, churning out words day after day, typing away, delivering copy on demand. So I made a decision:
For one month, I would set aside the computer and the documents.
I would write by hand.
And as the ink flowed, something happened. I felt my soul slowly return to my body.
So, in contrast to the infamous words of the Bhagavad Gita—echoed in Oppenheimer (2023)—“I am become death,” I chose to title this collection:
I Am Become Life.
Thirty prose poems, written in thirty days. Each one a step toward strength, healing, accountability, grace. A conversation between the self that was, and the self that is becoming.
This is that journey.
